A Writing Masterclass with Katherine Rundell

About The Author:

Katherine Rundell is an award-winning children’s writer and a Fellow in English Literature at All Souls College, Oxford. Her books have won, among others awards, the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize, the Blue Peter Book Award, the Boston Globe Horn Book Award in America, the Andersen Prize in Italy and Le Prix Sorcières in France. She lives mostly in London and a little in Oxford, where she works on research into the Renaissance poet John Donne and occasionally goes climbing on rooftops late at night.

About Katherine’s Books:

One of the most inventive and original authors of children’s fiction writing today, Katherine Rundell’s writing career was spearheaded by Waterstones who awarded her The Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in 2014 for her novel Rooftoppers. Born in Kent, Katherine grew up in Zimbabwe and her experiences of her life there and of leaving to move to Brussels when she was 14 were a strong influence on her first novel, The Girl Savage, which she wrote when she was just 21. A fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, Katherine wrote Rooftoppers – a novel influenced by her own hobby of clambering on Oxford’s college roofs – whilst studying for her masters. She followed this with The Wolf WilderThe Explorer, which won the Costa Book Award, One Christmas Wish, Into the Jungle, and The Good Thieves – a story about a heist in 1920s New York where a group of children will do anything to right a wrong.

Praise for Katherine Rundell:

‘An amazing adventure story, told with sparkling style and sleight of hand.’ – Jacqueline Wilson
‘Rundell is now unarguably in the first rank.’ – Philip Pullman
‘One of our most talented writers for children.’ – Observer
